20 September - Chinese Author Yu Hua in Leiden
Yu Hua (1960) is one of China’s most important contemporary writers. He gained fame with his novel To Live, made into a film by Zhang Yimou, and caused a furor with his magnum opus Brothers, in which he draws stark parallels between the collective craze of the Cultural Revolution and narcissistic consumerism in present-day China. His widely read book of essays China In 10 Words was based on his columns for The New York Times.
Yu Hua will be interviewed by Mark Leenhouts, literary translator and author of Chinese Literature Today: Down to Earth but Inspired
Everyone is welcome to attend. Please consider that the program of this event is in Dutch and Chinese, not English.
